Image of the Moraira Waterfront

The tranquil town of Moraira is base to many ex-patriots who have chosen this quiet, but up-market, haven as their home.

From its origins as an old fishing village it has developed, through tourism, into what it is today - a perfect mix of all the necessary and modern services required to meet its residents' needs whilst preserving its typical fishing port ambience.

You can still watch the traditional fish auctions in La Lonja right in the port area before wandering around the exclusive marina admiring the expensive craft. Stroll up the cobbled main street for a refreshing drink in one of the many local bars.

Moraira even boasts its own castle, built in 1742 and housing a shield from the Royal Borbon family over the door-way. Further evidence of the town's long history can be found at Cova de les Cendres where remains of Neanderthal man have been found in the caves.

But let's not forget the 8 kilometres of shore line with Blue Flag beaches, crystal waters and restaurants sitting right on many of its 6 beaches. El Portet cove is waiting for you to discover it - once a place of shelter for Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs it is now a haven for watersports enthusiasts. Take a walk from here to the watch tower at Cap d'Or, the highest point of the cape, and see the beach from a different angle.

If you are lucky enough to be here in November, join in the celebrations at the traditional fiesta in honour of Saint Catalina.

Moraira has perfected the art of maintaining its identity whilst still offering all modern amenities. It is committed to doing the best for its people, its visitors, landscape and, above all, its future. For this reason Moraira, and neighbouring Teulada, are working towards preserving their natural resources, traditions and customs and guaranteeing a good future for its inhabitants and visitors. So you are in good hands here and it's a wonderful place to live!
